The Valley of the Moon needs your help to replace our aging electrical system and to start using the Power of the Sun for all of our electrical needs. We are partnering with Tucson Solar Guild to install a 1.5 Kilowatt solar array that will provide for all of our electrical needs. We really do need your help though so please consider donating to our cause at CrowdRise. Tucson has supported Valley of the Moon for 90 years and we hope you'll continue to support us as we grow.
Clean Up DayOn Saturday, Feb. 7th, the Valley of the Moon had the use of a 'Bobcat' machine with an operator to remove debris and trash from the grounds for the Brush & Bulky' pickup. We had volunteers on site who helped with rounding up the trash and debris so the machine could remove it. Thank you to all of you who lent your time and effort to beautify the park for the Spring play.
Free Historic Tour
On Friday, Jan. 16th & Saturday, Jan. 17th from 6pm to 7:30pm we had a FREE Historic Tours open to the public. To keep these tours running we also had inspection. Here are the results of that inspection

VALLEY OF THE MOON
In response to your comments, and some further input from our consultants, we are providing this Addendum No. 2 to the final report with some additional recommendations arising out of our additional visit to the site to review structural conditions. We also provide very speculative costs for each recommended item – further study, drawings, etc., would be required for more accurate costing.
1. The Rabbit Hole will require yearly inspections/monitoring with the area cordoned off so that no one is able to enter the area.
- Recommendation: Provide two new support beams and a column and footing at a cost of approximately $5000.
ESTIMATED COST OF WORK: $5,000
2. The cave at the Fairy Queen’s Grotto should be considered structurally
unstable until further investigation.
- Recommendation: It is understood that the stairway down to the cave, as well as an approximately 50 sf section of the cave shall remain accessible for visitor experience. An opinion of probable cost for a new retaining wall (at existing stairs and cave section) will be $20 sf for new CMU wall, and $20 lf for the footing to support it. The stairway should be provided with a stable handrail and the treads should be “regularized” to provide a safer walkway for visitors – allow approximately $1,000. The opinion of probably cost for a new supporting roof at the cave would be $30 sf.
ESTIMATED COST OF WORK: New CMU Wall – approximately 150 sf = $3,000
Footing – approximately 15 lf = $300
Ceiling – approximately 100 sf - $3,000
Stairs – allow - $1,000
Total - $7,300
3. The Wizard’s Tower is of importance to the park and to allow uses around
it will require substantial work.
- Recommendation: Provide a new floor at a cost of $30 sf; provide FRP (Fiber Reinforced Polymer) strengthening of the walls and roof at a cost of $35 sf of surface area; and provide a steel subframe (around the exterior of the building) and footings for lateral stability at a cost of approximately $5000.
ESTIMATED COST OF WORK: New floor – approximately 100 sf = $3,000
Reinforce walls and roof – approximately 300 sf = $10,500
Add steel framing and footings = $5,000
Total - $18,500
