George Phar Legler designed and created Valley of the Moon largely between 1923 and 1932.  Legler, a railroad man turned postal clerk and visionary artist, created a enchanted storybook land and shared it to promote kindness and spark imagination.  Valley of the Moon formally became a nonprofit in 1945 to advocate tolerance and brotherly love regardless of race, creed or color and to present the power of the mind as a leading factor in maintaining the health of the body. A strong tradition of theatrical performances and fantasy adventures have delighted generations of guest and volunteers. Valley of the Moon has always benefited from donations from generous individual donors and businesses.
Valley of the Moon welcomes and celebrates all historically marginalized groups and does not discriminate against anyone.  Specifically, we do not discriminate against anyone because of their race, religion, creed, color, physical or mental health/abilities, age, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, citizenship, ethnicity,  parental status, veteran service, education or financial status. Our expectation is that at Valley of the Moon everyone is treated with kindness and respect.

Inclusion

Since its inception, Valley of the Moon has been a place of inclusion.
When first legally incorporated in 1945, our stated purpose included:
To advocate tolerance towards all religions…
to foster the divine principle of tolerance and brotherly love for all mankind, regardless of race, creed, or color.

This intention was bold in 1945 and sadly is still urgently needed today.
Valley of the Moon has stayed true to this primary guiding principle for over 100 years.
If we ever fall short, please let me know; we want to know how we can do better.
