One month later our gardens are doing generally well! Much of our success is due to the hard work of our three water wizards: Bill Bethel, Nichol Albert, and Jessica Jarrett! Well done, water wizards!
There have been a few losses along the way:
There have also been some great successes:
Watering is occurring Saturday, Monday, and Wednesday. The below photos were taken on Friday, May 6th, so if things look a little wilted it's because they haven't been watered for two days.
There have been a few losses along the way:
- One pipevine from the Desert Museum withered away completely within two weeks.
- Someone ate the blooms off of one cactus before they had a chance to open.
- Someone ate one of the three branches from our Queen of the Night! Don't worry, though, the plant is looking great otherwise!
- The pipevines from Desert Survivors have failed to thrive. Recently they have begun putting out tiny bright green leaves so hopefully they'll pull through.
There have also been some great successes:
- We had our first bloom of milkweed flowers on one of the narrow leaf milkweeds!
- We had our first cactus blossom: a brilliant scarlet flower on a trichocereus.
- The native passion vine is rapidly climbing the mesquite tree.
- We have flowers on the bee bush and the kidney wood.
- The justicia from Desert Survivors was EATEN DOWN TO STICKS by wild animals but it has bounced right back!
- With the watering of the historic island globe mallows have been appearing out of nowhere!
- Three out of four gramma grasses are thriving.
