Hallucinate
In honor of Mental Health Awareness month Valley of the Moon presents Hallucinate, a deeply personal tale of early-onset schizophrenia. Hallucinate was written and directed by a Valley of the Moon volunteer who started hallucinating at 16 and was diagnosed with schizophrenia at 17. This show is a reflection of his personal experience with the disease.
Valley of the Moon has been a center for mental health since first opening in 1932. The first sign at Valley of the Moon declared: Valley of the Moon, Tucson's Picture in the Third Dimension and Mental Health Center. We have always been a place of acceptance and healing. After the writer/director of this show was diagnosed with schizophrenia Valley of the Moon was one of the few places of safety for him and has remained an important part of his wellness to this day (7 years later).
Hallucinate is a walking theatrical production through Valley of the Moon. It is the story of Sam, a high school sophomore who starts experiencing hallucinations, as told by her doctor as she struggles with the disease. This deeply impactful show shares insight into the experience of schizophrenia. Our goal is to promote mental health awareness, decrease stigma around mental illness, and encourage people who need help to seek it.
Due to the nature of the material we STRONGLY recommend ages 13 and up for this event.

TIME: Three performances each day: 6, 7 and 8 p.m.
COST: FREE, thanks to the support of Cenpatico Integrated Care.

If you're having a hard time in your life, for any reason, the most important thing you can do for yourself is to talk to someone. Parents, friends, counselors, or whoever you trust, just tell someone. Never suffer alone.
