Historic Landmark Designation and Rezoning
Valley of the Moon is working with the Tucson Historic Preservation Foundation to designate Valley of the Moon Tucson's first new Historic Landmark in 20 years! Our city currently has 5 designated historic landmarks and we want to be the 6th!
The purpose of the Historic Landmark designation is to promote community welfare "by encouraging the preservation and rehabilitation of significant historic districts, neighborhoods, buildings, structures, sites, objects, and archaeological resources" (Unified Development Code Section 5.8.1).
Designation of Historic Landmarks is done by act of the Mayor and Council. It provides an overlay zoning for the property that protects it from development. Historic Landmark status will protect Valley of the Moon from ever being developed into anything other than Tucson's only storybook land.
Valley of the Moon is an important part of Tucson's heritage and deserves to be protected. We need your help to make that happen!

How to Help!
Valley of the Moon's Historic Landmark designation will be considered by the Mayor and Council in their regular meeting on May 19th, 2015, at 5:30 PM in the Mayor and Council Chambers, First Floor, City Hall, 255 W Alameda Street. The agenda for that meeting will be available on www.tucsonaz.gov.
Since this decision is being made by the Mayor and Council we need you to contact your representative to let them know that you support the designation! If you don't know your ward, take a look at this map to find out which ward you're in.
Whether by telegram, phone call, letter, email, or owl we need you to get in touch with your ward office and put in your two cents! We've prepared letters for all six council members and the mayor and you can download those below. We hope you will call or write your council member as soon as possible! Click here to see the contact info for all of the ward offices.
We have supporting postcards available at Valley of the Moon as well, so if you drop in to Alice in Wonderland you can fill one out there and we'll mail it for you!
A fantastic way to support the Historic Landmark is to come out to the Mayor and Council meeting on May 19th. Let's pack the chamber with Valley of the Moon supporters!
Please take a few minutes today to help protect Valley of the Moon.
